William J Moran, Jr.

August 25, 1936 — July 28, 2022

William J. (Bill) Moran, Jr., age 85, of Levittown, PA, passed away peacefully at home on July 28th, by the side of his loving wife, Joyce.  Affectionately known as the “Big Guy,” Bill was a devoted family man and husband.  Bill and Joyce had recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Bill was born August 25th, 1936, and raised in Croydon, PA.  Bill developed a strong sense of family from his parents and brothers and let that become a primary doctrine in his life.  Nothing was more important than family to the Big Guy.  On July 11th, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart Joyce, in her family home of Waco, TX and began their own incredible family journey.

Bill was a 1954 graduate of Delhaas High School in Bristol, PA.  He lived in Levittown for more than 62 years.   He started a very successful career in the furniture business at Heirloom Furniture, an Ethan Allen furniture distributor in Willow Grove, PA.  Over his 10-year tenure he held several roles, including store manager and warehouse manager.  Unable to find competent craftsmen to perform the inevitable repairs and refinishing necessary in the furniture business, Bill taught himself that craft.  He became quite passionate about furniture refinishing and turned this passion into a very successful 30-year career.  Having started his own furniture repair business, he worked for multiple furniture stores and moving companies doing outside service work, where Bill earned the reputation “best in the business.”  He was a true artisan in the furniture repair and refinishing business and took tremendous pride in this profession until his retirement at age 65.

Bill was also a very skilled carpenter and mason.  During weekends and time off, he built an extensive addition to his Levittown home, with beautiful brickwork both inside and out.  Big Guy enjoyed bowling, and was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan, especially the Eagles.  He enjoyed gardening and routinely produced a summer bounty of vegetables.   Bill was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Bill’s happiest moments may have occurred during family vacations at Long Beach Island, NJ.  Every June and September marked the bi-annual pilgrimage to LBI for awesome home cooked meals, a few great restaurants, catching up with family members, and simply relaxing in a beautiful environment.  It was Big Guy’s happy place!

Bill is predeceased by his parents, William J. Moran, Sr. and Madeline Moran, brothers Robert Moran, and Edward Moran (Jane Moran).  He is survived by his wife Joyce Moran and sons, William J Moran, III (Cathy Moran) and Patrick Moran (Nancy Moran), grandchildren William J. Moran, IV, Caitlin Jensen (Julian Jensen), Patrick Moran (Alexis Moran), and Matthew Moran, and by his pride and joy, great grandchild Declan Jensen.  He will also be missed by sister-in-law Bernice Moran, nephews Robert Moran, Michael Moran, Edward Moran, and niece Kelly Moran.

Family and friends are invited to gather Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 9 – 10:30 am at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol – Oxford Valley Road, Levittown, PA 19057.  Words of Remembrance will begin at 10:30 am.  Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
