Walter W Pucher

Walter Pucher, 92, of Levittown, PA passed from this earth to join his loving wife, Marlene, on January 24, 2018 at his home. He was born and raised in Kelayres, PA and graduated from McAdoo High School where he served as class vice president and played trumpet in the band. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II. He earned the rank of Sgt. in the Light Weapons Platoon, was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service in a combat zone, and honorably discharged in 1945. After serving his country, he returned home and attended McCann School of Business graduating in 1949. Walter met the love of his life, Marlene, in 1953 and they were soon married and moved to Levittown where they lived and raised six children. He was a very dedicated husband, father, and provider. He was employed at Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Corporation for 29 years working his way up to Foreman before the steel company closed and then worked in sheet metal design and fabrication for several years before retiring. He was a member of the International Boilermakers Union Local Lodge 13 for over 60 years. Walter was an active member at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bristol, PA. He was an avid gardener and never missed a harvest since starting his garden in 1954. He was renowned for his delicious beefsteak tomatoes and homemade pickles which he generously shared with his family, church members, and neighbors. He loved spending time with his family, traveling with his wife Marlene, bowling, fishing, watching sports, and was known for being able to fix anything that needed fixing or refinishing. He was artistic and had a talent for creating pysanky Ukrainian Easter eggs. He was a member of the Bristol Twp. and Oxford Valley Seniors as well as SJW Seniors at Knights of Columbus. When Marlene was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease 8 years ago he dedicated his life to caring for her until his own health failed. Walter was a true role model to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene, brother Alex, sisters Mary Petresky, Anna Behr, and Martha Hooper. He is survived by his children Tom (Laura), Linda Jernigan (John), Rose Wallace (Ken), Arlene Jamieson (Paula), David (Nicole), Michael (Nancee); grandchildren Tommy, Mat, Emily, James, Jonathan, Michael, Amanda, Ashlin, CJ, Jacob, Gabrielle, Nicolas, John, Alyssa; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 8:00 am – 9:00 am at St Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 2026 Bath Road, Bristol, PA 19007. Funeral mass will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of his name to St Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 2026 Bath Road, Bristol, PA 19007.
