Robert M Scordia

July 3, 1958 — July 3, 2023

Robert Mark Scordia was born on July 3, 1958. After a year-long battle with cancer, on Monday, July 3, 2023–his 65th birthday—he took his final breaths surrounded by family in his Fairless Hills home. Robert was the second of three children born to Frank and Marge (née Moceri) Scordia. The family lived in Bristol Borough and were active parishioners at St. Ann Church. While his father was interested in local politics, young Robert loved the outdoors—camping, hiking, hunting, and, of course, fishing. As a teen, Rob began working in the restaurant business in the kitchen, alongside his older brother, Vince. One night in 1976, Rob met the love of his life Laureen (née McDermott) outside the Windsor Inn in Levittown. Rob and Laureen married in September 1978 and welcomed the first of three children, Stephanie, that December. Six years later, Christina was born, and nine years after that, a son—Robert Frank—made the family complete. Rob loved US history—especially the Civil War and Revolutionary War eras. Summer vacations meant loading up the kids and camping gear into the car and heading off to explore new places—Acadia National Park, the White Mountains of NH, Martha’s Vineyard, Niagara Falls, Moosonee, Ontario (“the Gateway to the Arctic”), Gettysburg, Colonial Williamsburg, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, the Outer Banks, and so many more. Robert also dedicated his time and talent to his son Robert’s Boy Scout Troop Excursions - such as the Camporee and Klondike Derby.

Of course, Rob took more trips to the Jersey Shore than anyone could count, both with his kids and, in later years, to fish for striped bass.

Rob was a hard-working man; in 1989, he left the restaurant industry and started a commercial janitorial business, RMS Janitorial Services, serving hundreds of customers in Lower Bucks County over the years, which was passed to his daughter Christina in March 2023.  Over time, he upgraded his armchair historian status and became a historical reenactor with Glover’s Marblehead Regiment, the sailors who rowed General Washington and his men across the Delaware River that fateful Christmas in 1776. Rob happily took on the role of the camp cook and delighted in talking to guests who’d come to the encampments. It was hard work, especially manning the oars, but he loved it, traveling as far as MA, NY, and Canada for encampments, and he would talk to anyone about the importance of the Marbleheaders, being quoted many times in articles, books, and even appearing on TV. Rob always kept busy, slowing down only when the cancer forced him to. He will be remembered as a force of nature—strong, forever providing for his family, cooking feasts for every holiday, instilling in his children an equal sense of the need for responsibility and adventure in life. His extended family includes many brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his extended family, he leaves behind his son-in-law, Randy LoBasso, his son’s partner, Ambur Guidotti, his sister, Fran Scordia, and his aunt, Jean Deon. Thankfully, before he passed, Rob got to share his love of fishing with his only grandchild, Stella, who has become an expert at casting thanks to his tutelage. A spiritual man his whole life, Robert’s physical absence leaves an indelible mark on those who were lucky enough to know and love him, but his spirit will be with us always. Robert’s family would like to thank each of the many medical professionals that took care of him and helped him in his brave fight - especially Dr. Krista Isaac and her staff at Alliance Cancer Specialists, Dr. Mark Geyer and his team at Memorial Sloan Kettering, the nurses at both St. Mary and Riverview Medical Centers, as well as Jessica and the nurses and staff at Chandler Hall Home Hospice.

For those who wish to pay respects, there will be a viewing on Friday, July 7, 2023,  from 6 - 8 pm at Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol - Oxford Valley Road, Levittown, PA 19057. The following morning, on Saturday, July 8, 2023,  from 8:30 am - 9:15 am, there will be a viewing at Saint Frances Cabrini Church, 325 South Oxford Valley Road, Fairless Hills, PA 19030.  Followed by a Eulogy at 9:15 am, with the funeral mass starting promptly at 9:30 am. Interment is private under the direction of Galzerano Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, 925 Canal Street, 7th Floor, Bristol, PA 19007, an organization that keeps Robert’s beloved Delaware River and its tributaries clean and protected.
