Robert H Austin, Sr.

Robert Henry Austin, Sr., 96, of Fairless Hills, PA, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA.

He was born in West Pittston, PA, February 25, 1927 to Charles and Gertrude Austin. He moved to Fairless Hills, PA during 1952 and lived there for 71 years.

Robert graduated from West Pittston High School in 1945. He was a member of the West Pittston football team, champions in 1943, as well as on the track team.  Robert was a sports enthusiast. You would, on most occasions, find him watching football, hockey, golf, baseball on TV. In fact, he and his wife, Leona, spent many days golfing at several different courses throughout the country. He loved the Philadelphia teams and could recount memories of sport highlights when asked.

He was a General Foreman for U. S. Steel Corporation until his retirement in 1987. A proud Veteran, Robert served in the U. S. Navy from July 1946 through July 1954. Part of his 8 years of service were aboard the destroyer, USS Ingraham (DD-694).

Robert loved working in his vegetable gardens. He definitely had a green thumb, as everything he planted thrived and produced an abundance of vegetables. He was also a master of any home or car repair; no job was too big for him to tackle on his own. He continued repair projects in his home until the age of 95.

He lived a life of strength, love, and laughter. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought out the best in Robert. His love for them was unconditional and enjoyed every minute he was with them. His legacy is all of the love he shared with his family and all the lives he touched with his gracious selflessness.

Robert was devoted to and is survived by his beloved and loving wife of 53 years Leona (Nicoletti) Austin; his 5 children: Robert Austin Jr. (Penny), Jane Corning (Bill), William Austin (Doreen), Thomas Austin (Sharon), and Steven Austin (Donna); 12 grandchildren: Elisha Spier (Bret), Matt Austin, Kimberly Reichenbach (Rick Granger), Richard Reichenbach (Ali), Jamie Reichenbach, Lauren Miedlar (Michael), Rylan Austin (Sheila Alaghemand), Michael Austin (Sydney), Katie Sculac (Kurt), Rebecca Austin (Zeke), Stephanie Plum (Brian), and Stephen Austin (Marti); 14 great grandchildren: Austin, Orlee and Madison Spier, Addison Reichenbach, Logan, Landon and Paisley Reichenbach, Desmond “Dezi” Miedlar, Ellis Austin, Mae and Marlee Sculac, Charlotte “Charlie” Austin, and Eli and Ory Plum.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife and mother of their five children, Nancy Wane Austin.

Services will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol - Oxford Valley Road, Levittown, PA; Visitation 10:00AM, Memorial Service 11:00AM, with an interment following at Newtown Cemetery in Bucks County, PA.
