Marie W Costello

July 17, 1927 — January 9, 2024

Marie W. Costello passed away at 96, on January 9th, 2024.   She was surrounded by her loving daughters and family.

She was born and raised in Riverside, NJ where she attended grade school and high school.  She was very artistic and excelled in sketching, drawing portraits, and ceramics. Working as a bank teller, Marie tapped into her fondness and expertise with numbers.

Marie and her husband Joe loved dancing together to all of the Big Bands, especially Glenn Miller. She always liked to tell people that they met each other at a Fire House dance in Riverside.  They belonged to St. Peters parish in Riverside, where they volunteered for various fundraisers. While raising four daughters, they managed to find time to coach C.Y.O. and grade school sports.

Marie always had a warm and welcoming personality to all who met her. Her home had an open door policy where all her children, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s friends were welcomed with open arms.  Marie became everyone’s honorary Mom-Mom.  This was a title that she was extremely proud of.

Because of her huge heart and generosity she contributed to many charities of which St. Jude’s was one of her favorites.  She was the perfect role model and example of strength, kindness, and compassion.

Marie was an avid sports fan and cheered on the Burlington Blue Devil’s basketball teams for over 40 years.  The Philadelphia 76ers became her favorite professional basketball team.  She followed them faithfully along with the other Philly teams.

In addition to her zest for professional sports, Marie would never miss watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren compete.  If you ever needed to find Marie, more than likely she could be found in the bleachers of one of the many sports fields and courts cheering with her stat sheets in hand.  Being the “#1 Sports Fan” for her family brought her infinite joy!

Marie was a wonderful, caring, and loving Mother, Mom-Mom, and GiGi. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart! She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her devoted daughters:  Karen Costello–Wilkes (Stuart), Susan Costello-Harper (Barry), JoAnn Costello–Guarini (Frank), and Nancy Keegan (Joseph).  Her grandchildren: Blaise Harper, (Danielle), Joseph Harper, (Nicole), Lauren Guarini, (Dominic), Allie Guarini, Shamus Keegan, (Julia), Mackenzie Keegan, Britt Wilkes–Kunter, (Brian), and Jenny Wilkes-Hancock, (Greg).  Her great-grandchildren:  Brayden Harper, Brynn Harper, Joseph Harper, Sophia Harper, Isabella Harper, Giovanni Harper, Geno Meli
