Lawrence D. Leggerie Jr., a dedicated family man, retired postal worker and United States Air Force veteran, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, at his home in Levittown, PA. Born on January 13, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, Lawrence lived a life marked by service to both his country and his community.
Lawrence spent his first days out of the service living in California and never gave up his love for it even after moving back to Pennsylvania. He was a gentle soul, a religious man - who could be found at St. Michael Archangel Catholic Church every Sunday. As a loving son, took extreme pride in successfully publishing his father’s novel, Human Cargo. When he wasn’t working hard to provide a comfortable life for his family, he enjoyed vacationing and visiting friends and family. He loved taking his daily walk around the neighborhood or listening to Frank Sinatra, his idol. Both pastimes he continued to enjoy well into his later life.
Lawrence is survived by his daughters, Lorén Leggerie, Robin Petrites, and Barbara Irvine (née Petrites); granddaughters Katelyn Irvine and Emily Irvine all of whom carry forward his legacy of care and compassion. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Leggerie (née Burgess), and his parents, Lawerence Sr. and Rose Leggerie (née DeMarco) and siblings Shirley (Marie) Tropello, Charles Leggerie and Dolores Haas.
Arrangements for Lawrence's services are as follows: a viewing will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, located at 66 Levittown Parkway, Levittown, PA. A Mass will follow at the same location at 10:00 AM. He will then be laid to rest at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA, on Friday, December 20, 2024. A funeral procession will form at the Galzerano Funeral Home at 8:30 AM Friday and leave for the cemetery at 8:45 AM.
