Joseph Potena

July 14, 1924 — December 17, 2017

On Sunday, December 17, 2017 A.D. the Lord extended His hand to Joseph Potena and guided him over the rainbow and led him into the Lords Paradise.  Joseph was surrounded by his loving and caring family at his side as he entered Paradise.  He will be greatly missed by all those whom he was blessed to have touched during his 93 years.  Joseph’s passionate Love and Pride of his Family was truly an unconditional Love.  He was both a Loving Father and Friend to all of his siblings and extended family, always there to lend a helping hand and to provide guidance in life’s journey.  His unselfishness as a Father and provider embodied the true meaning of “Family”.  Joseph’s impact will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Joseph was a proud World War II Veteran of the United States Marine Corp and considered it an honor and privilege to serve his Country.  He embraced the meaning of “Once a Marine Always a Marine”.  He was born and raised in Bristol Boro and resided with his loving wife Florence of 67 years at their home in Bristol Township.  He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 35 years prior to retirement. Joe was an avid sports enthusiast and was a standout athlete in his prime.  Joe was a Lifetime member of St. Ann’s Athletic Association.  He was a Certified PIAA Basketball, Baseball and Football official after his playing days, for over 35 years.  During his years of sports officiating he was affectionately referred to as the “teaching umpire” for his willingness to offer instruction to all players to help improve their athletic skills.  He was All Lower Bucks County selection during his football playing days at Bristol High School and was inducted into the Bristol High School Hall of Fame as Joseph “Flash” Potena for his athletic skills. He was preceded by his parents James (Vincenzo) and Angelina (Anna) Potena of Bristol, PA.  Also proceeded by his siblings and their spouses Dominic and Mary Potena, James (Sonny) Potena Jr. and Emily and John Serenelli.  Joseph is survived by his wife Florence as well, as his children and their spouses, Joseph and Virginia Potena, Robert and Karen Nejman and Brian M. Potena. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and their spouses Alyssa and Antonio Pandolfi, Ashley and Chris O’Neill, Joseph and Kayla Potena and Christian Joseph Potena.  He is also survived by his sister in law Judith Potena, great grandchildren, Angelina, Madison, Carter, Vienna and Valentina and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 6 – 8 pm and again Friday morning between 7:15 – 8 am at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol – Oxford Valley Road, Levittown, PA 19057.  Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of his name to the DAV – Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
