Joseph P Feeney

Joseph Patrick Feeney (Poppy) was born on March 19, 1935. Joe was a lifelong resident of Philadelphia and loved the history and traditions of the city. He spent many summers and holidays with family in St Clair, PA. He attended the Cathedral School and Roman Catholic High School. A Highschool aptitude test changed his plan to become a carpenter and led to a drafting position at the Frankford Arsenal. Joe met his wife, Barbara Malmrose Feeney, at an Arsenal going away party when he was drafted into the army in 1957 and they married after a year of writing letters to each other.  He earned his degree in Industrial Engineering from Drexel evening school while working and raising 5 children. He worked at DSCP modernizing the clothing factory after the Arsenal closed in 1978, rather than moving to Picatinny Arsenal so the family could remain close to extended family and long-time friends. He retired in 1992 with 35 years of service. Joe and Barb were always there to help others in need both as members of Saint Katherine of Sienna Church Saint Vincent DePaul Society and in other areas of their lives. In retirement, they enjoyed biking, skiing, and relaxing at their mountain home, when not too busy helping with their 18 grandchildren. Joe was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild in September.  Joe will be missed by his children Lizabeth Megelsh (George), Barbara Moffatt (Thomas), Joseph P. Feeney (Gina), Sean Feeney (Lisa) and Pete Feeney (Joan) and grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 10 - 11 am at St. Katherine of Siena Church, 9700 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19114.  Funeral Mass will begin at 11 am.  Inurnment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
