Jose R Melendez

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jose R. Melendez, a beloved spouse, father, son, grandpop, and military veteran. Born on July 6, 1960, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, Jose peacefully departed on Saturday, November 2, 2024, after a very brief illness, surrounded by loved ones. Jose was preceded in death by his father, Maximo Melendez, and his brothers, Maximo (Junito), Abraham and Maximo (Danny).

Jose proudly served in the National Guard, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his country. He loved spending time with family, fishing, and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He had a knack for creating unforgettable meals. Whether it was a casual Sunday breakfast or a holiday feast, his cooking brought people together, leaving everyone with full stomachs and fond memories. 

Jose is survived by his spouse, Ellen McKinney, his five children, Stephanie and her husband Todd Lenarski, Anthony Melendez and his girlfriend De’Nelle Reed, Michael Melendez and his wife Nicole, Joseph Melendez and Jose Melendez and his wife Sara, as well as his stepchildren, Ashley Somahkawahho (Jason), Tomasz Siek (Amanda), Jared Siek, Natalia Siek (Chase), his seventeen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his loving mother, Esther Rosado, sister, Carmen (Jose Echevarria), and brother Eduardo.

In remembrance of Jose's life, a viewing will be held at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol-Oxford Valley Road, Levittown, PA 19057 on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 12:00-2:00 pm, offering a time for family and friends to honor and cherish the memories they shared with a remarkable man. The family asks that you please wear Eagles gear.

As we gather to celebrate his life, let us reflect on the impact Jose had on all those who knew him, his steadfast determination, and his enduring love for his family. May his spirit live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
