James E Hartz

November 19, 1941 — November 5, 2019

James “Jim” Hartz of Levittown, PA passed away Tuesday, Nov 5, 2019, peacefully at Chandler Hall Hospice Facility in Newtown.  He was two weeks shy of his 78th birthday.

Born November 19, 1941, in Altoona, Pa., Jim was preceded in death by his mother Alice, father Charles, sister Nancy, and grandson Ryan.

Jim served as an MP in the US Army during the Vietnam War, where he spent time stationed in Germany.  After his service, Jim worked and eventually retired from US Steel.

Jim was an avid and accomplished bowler.  His bowling career started in Altoona, continued to Lower Bucks, and even took the US Army team to victory at the Oktoberfest Tournament during his time of service.

Jim was also an active member of his community as part of the Lincoln Highway Kiwanis Club, a volunteer for the Children of Eastern State, and assisted with coaching the Pennsbury High School bowling team.  He was always a big supporter of the Philadelphia sports team, especially the Phillies and the Eagles.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, June; his son Jay (Michelle), two daughters Sandy (Bill) and Susan (Greg), four grandchildren Matthew (Jenna), Tiffany (Beth), Justin, and Samantha, and one great-grandson Bryce.

No services will be held.  Instead, there will be a ceremony for immediate family at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.  

He may be gone, but he will be in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Chandler Hall Hospice in memory of James E. Hartz, and sent to Chandler Hall, Philanthropy Office, 99 Barclay Street, Newtown, PA 18940.
