James T Coon

James (Jimmy) Thomas Coon, formerly of Solebury, PA passed away on September 4, 2019 at the age of 84. Born in Girardville, PA on May 8, 1935 to Clarence and Pearl Coon (nee: George), deceased. James moved to Bristol, PA in the early 1950’s in search of work, not wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps of being a coal miner. He eventually found his career as an electrician for the Fairless Steelworks until his retirement in 1990.  In 1957 James was drafted and served in the US Marine Corp for 2 years, earning an honorable discharge. While he worked for Fairless Steel, he was also a part time police officer in New Hope, PA and Solebury, PA.

During the years that James worked for the Fairless Steelworks, he became very involved with the Steelworkers union and eventually became the vice president.

After retiring from the Fairless Steelworks, James began another career with Anapol Schwartz Law Firm in Phila. facilitating the Steelworkers who were effected by Asbestosis, in seeking reparation.

James is survived by his wife, Myrna R. Coon (nee: Whyno) of Doylestown, PA. His daughter, Linda B. Vuono of Plumsteadville, PA. His granddaughters Caitlin C. Vuono of Plumsteadville, PA, and Danielle R. Vuono of Cherry Hill, NJ., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Sean K. Coon.

James was beloved by many people, for his patience, wit and generosity. He was an everyman and made friends wherever he went. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, and his faithful dog “Shenandoah.”

Interment will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road Newtown, PA 18940. Please arrive precisely at 11:15 a.m., so that interment can take place at 11:30 a.m., due to cemetery restrictions.
