With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Irving A. Ashwell, “Big I”, of Levittown, PA on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was 71.
Born in Trenton NJ, Irv lived his life in the Bristol and Levittown area. He began his working life after serving in the US Army during the Vietnam war. Irv worked in construction, the tire business, he retired as a mason for Bristol Township public works, and most recently worked as a driver for Bucks County Transport.
“Big I” had many hobbies including DJ-ing, where he brought great “oldies music” (and new music too) to many weddings, parties, and local clubs. He enjoyed all Philadelphia sports teams but he especially loved his Philadelphia Eagles, “GO BIRDS”. For anyone who knows “Big I”, Super Bowl Sundays will never be the same.
You were considered one of Irv's lifetime breakfast buddies at the local breakfast spots even if you met Irv once. Irv only referred to you by your nickname and most of his buddies had one.
Irv is preceded in death by his parents Irvin and Fannie Ashwell (Abate). He will be greatly missed by his wife Cynthia Ashwell (Lloyd) of 32 years, children Adam and Lindsay, sister Carmella Lignore (James), brother John Ashwell (Janet) and cousin Francis Briggs. Irv is the brother in law of, and will be missed by, Karen and Dave Scott and Glen and Tina Lloyd, father in law James Lloyd. He will also be missed by many other family members and friends.
Interment will be held Monday, May 24, 2021 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road Newtown, PA 18940. Please arrive precisely at 9:45 am, so that interment can take place at 10 am, due to cemetery restrictions.
