Ethel E Hartley

July 22, 1923 — November 15, 2018

Ethel E. Hartley (nee Kohlmeyer) was born on July 22, 1923 and passed away on November 15, 2018.  She worked at Woolworths in Mayfair for 30 years and was recognized even in her final days by a nurse as the “Woolworths Lady”.  She was an avid animal lover and regularly attended church.  She especially loved the candle light service on Christmas Eve followed by a visit to the live nativity (where she always had carrots for the animals).  She loved to cook for her family, play piano, and enjoyed long rides in the car where she would enjoy the views.  Ethel often talked of sunshine filled days on the beach as a little girl filled with ice cream and sunbathing for hours.  She put her love of family above all else and her pets were a close second.     Ethel was predeceased by her husband, James Hartley and her son, James Hartley Jr.  Ethel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Louise McCaffrey, daughter-in-law, Margaret Apgar (David), grandchildren, Steven (Deborahdawn), Janel (Daniel), Lisa (Joseph), Kelly, Tom (Maureen), and several great-grandchildren.  Ethel will be sadly missed by many family members and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Tuesday, November 20that 9:00 a.m., Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7234 Erdrick St. Philadelphia, PA 19135, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m.  Interment – Northwood Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: SPCA, 350 E. Erie Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19134. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Ethel E Hartley, please visit our flower store.
