Alfred R Elwert

January 13, 1939 — March 24, 2020

Alfred Rowland Elwert, 81 of North Wales, passed away peacefully in his home on March 24, 2020 surrounded by his family.   Al was the loving husband to Nancy (Porter) with whom he shared more than 59 years of marriage.

Al was born in Philadelphia and raised in Upper Darby, PA where he lived with his sister, Cathryne (Waurick) and his parents, Edward and Cathryne (Rowland).  He attended Episcopal Academy where he was a standout football and baseball player.  He went on to attend University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business; however, his college career was cut short to care for his mother and sister, after the sudden passing of his father.   He continued on into the brokerage business where he worked as a Municipal Bond Trader for several firms on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange.  It was here that he met the love of his life, Nancy (Porter).  They were married in 1960 and moved to Warminster, PA where they raised their four children.  Al later went on to work at H & R Auto Radio Services in Warminster, where he was a Purchasing Agent.

Al enjoyed his backyard swimming pool, taking trips to the beach, taking long walks with his wife at local parks, barbequing on the grill, and making his favorite dishes (chili and stir fry).   He always had a large vegetable garden which always produced a large bounty which he shared with family and friends.  He also loved listening to rock and roll music, watching and reading about cars and drag racing, and watching sports including his favorite teams the Phillies, Flyers and Eagles.  He was a devoted father who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He had a great work ethic and was an inspiration to his family and all who knew him. He was notorious for carrying around a yellow legal pad where he took notes and made lists.  He had a wonderful gentle personality and sense of humor which endeared him to everyone who met and knew him.  He was a solution seeker and a peace-maker.  He was the one you went to you when you needed good advice.  The love he had for his family and his wife was truly his legacy.

Al was the loving husband to Nancy (Porter), loving father of Edward, Beth (Voelker), Michael (Linda), and Nancy (Angela Rosato); he was Pop Pop to Ryan Voelker (Lori), Tyler Voelker, Sarah Plaza (Tim), Laura Miller (John), Theresa Orecchio (Zachary), and Christopher Elwert and Great Grandfather to Theoden Orecchio.  He was the loving brother of Cathryne (Walt Waurick), and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
