Nicholas Roth

d. April 14, 2010

Nicholas Roth, age 88, passed away April 14, 2010, at his residence in Doylestown. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, on July 18, 1921 to Regina Pulitzer and Arpad Toth. His Hungarian name was Miklos Toth. Nicholas was swept up in the tragic events of the Holocaust in Europe and was in forced labor for 20 months from the age of 18. He escaped Nazi persecution and fled to Germany in 1943; arriving in America in 1945. He later sent for his parents and brought them to America. He fulfilled his dream to become an American citizen and opened a factory in Philadelphia where he manufactured designer sweaters. He had many Hungarian friends, several of whom survived the atrocities of the Holocaust and regained hope through building a new life in America. His factory closed in the late 1970’s, but he continued his career as an art and antiques dealer. He married Barbara Sala in 1958 and had 2 daughters, April in 1960, and Serena in 1962. He lived with his family Montgomery County from 1961-1972 and then moved to Bucks County where he lived in Doylestown. He divorced in 1980, but continued to live in the Doylestown area in several different residences for the remainder of his life. Nicholas loved and cherished the beauty of many works of art and sculpture, jewelry, and antiques; and had extensive knowledge, as well as an extensive and diverse collection, of art, antiques, and collectibles. He shared this affinity and appreciation with his family. He was a generous man and was always thinking about what he could give to others or how he could make his family happy. In later years, he resided at Grundy Hall where he had many friends and became a familiar and friendly presence there for 13 years. In 2004, Nicholas became a member of Penn Ridge Full Gospel Church and enjoyed the friendship and support of several church friends who often visited him and prayed with him. He received a lasting and deeper understanding of his Messianic faith and Jewish origin as a member of the Church. Later in his life, Nicholas enjoyed prayer and believed in the power of prayer. Nicholas loved life and remained as active as possible in his later years. He had a sharp mind and loved to study history and current events. He enjoyed the company of his family and frequent visits from his daughters. Nicholas is survived by his ex-wife Barbara; his 2 daughters April Maurizi and Serena Roth; and his granddaughter Nicole Kennedy. Arrangements by Galzerano Funeral Home.
