Lucy Mary Papotto, 1937 - 2017
Lucy Mary Papotto, a lifelong resident of Bristol Borough, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2017. The daughter of Joe and Josie Papotto of Lafayette Street, Lucy was affectionately known as ‘Pinkie’ by her relatives and closest friends.
Lucy graduated from Bristol High School in 1955. She trained as a cosmetologist, and spent many years in the family business, LaFrance Beauty Salon. Everyone who knew Lucy appreciated her mischievous laughter, ready smile, and generous spirit. One of seven siblings, she is survived by brothers Joe Papotto and Frank Papotto. Lucy’s extended family and friends remember her with deep love and affection.
All are invited to share in a celebration of Lucy’s life, to be held on Wednesday, May 10, at Saint Ann’s Church, 357 Dorrance Street, Bristol, PA. Visitation begins at 9:00 am, followed by Mass at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Mark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library – Lucy Papotto Memorial Gift.
A self-taught poet, Lucy delighted us with verses celebrating daily life. One favorite poem told the tale of an evergreen tree proudly decorating the town one winter.
‘Oh Pine of Mine,’ by Lucy Papotto
Many, many years ago
A pine tree the Kehoes did plant
It grew so tall and so erect
But alas, it began to slant!
Mary and Jodi were fearful
The neighbors, I’m sure, shared their plight
That the giant pine with its listing spine
Would come crashing down some night
Then much to their amazement
Bristol Borough to the rescue came
They cut down the tree and
Hauled it away using a mighty saw and crane
Now it stands proudly on Mill Street
Looking as stately as it did in its prime
The main attraction it will be
During this festive Christmas time!
Pinkie, may you stand as proud and beautiful as the shining Christmas tree, as the Blessed Mother takes you gently into eternal life.
