Louis Alfred Booth

December 2, 1925 — April 28, 2017

Louis Alfred (Al) Booth died peacefully on Friday, April 28th at his home in Fairless Hills with the steadfast love and support of his family and caregivers. He was 91. Born and raised in Elizabeth, PA, he was the son of the late Evelyn (Sutton) Griffiths and William Henry Booth, and brother to the late Terrance Griffiths. Al enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on November 9, 1943, 23 days shy of his 18th birthday. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII, making landings on Tinian and Okinawa and participated in The Occupation of Japan before returning to the states in March of 1946. His love of his country and the Corps never faltered nor did his honor and remembrance of the boys that did not make it back. Even though he saw terrible things, he was a gentle and kind man to all who knew him. He began work at the US Steel Corporation in 1946 as a roll grinder in the Sheet & Tin Division at the Irvin Plant in West Mifflin, PA. He transferred to the Fairless Plant in 1952, bought a house in Fairless Hills, put down roots and raised his family. A true and dedicated company man, he worked swing shift for 41 years before retiring in 1987. Al enjoyed spending time in the Poconos camping and boating with his family when they were young and later as the proud owner of a lakefront property with a dock for his motor boat, “Dobbin”. He loved waterskiing and fishing with his children and grandchildren in the summers and snowmobiling and ice fishing with his wife in the winter months. After retirement, he purchased a home in Tom Bean, Texas where he spent the winters and enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons for weeks at a time. He loved a good book, a good movie, a good joke and a good conversation …. with anyone. He loved his cat. He loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a selfless man who cared for his family above all else. A dreamer and eternal optimist, his glass was always half full. He was a terrific husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Al is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Kathleen (Fleming) Booth, two sons, Kim Booth (Leigh) and Dale Booth (Linda) and two daughters Kathy Washburn (Richard), and Judy Price (Paul), seven grandchildren, Ian Booth (Julie), Mackenzie Booth, Bradley Booth, Kelsey Booth, Laura Washburn, Candice Badders (Paul) and Kristie Price, and two step-grandsons Richard H. Washburn (Carolyn) and James Washburn (Tannwen), and seven great-grandchildren, Colby and Rory Booth and Cate, Sara, Becket, Hadley & Clayton Washburn. Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service, 12:30 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol-Oxford Valley Road, Levittown where the family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
