Stephen J Gill

June 19, 1953 — November 25, 2016

On Friday, November 25, 2016 Stephen peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He fought a long and difficult battle with cancer.  He was 63.  Born and raised in Philadelphia, resided in Levittown since 1997.  Stephen was drafted into the Army at the age of 19, where he served 2 years assigned to the 65th Combat Engineers as a CEV Driver.  He was an active member of VFW Post 1597, holding the position of Post Quartermaster and Vice President of the Home Association.  He was honored as the Grand Marshall at the annual VFW Memorial Day Parade.  He is responsible for starting the annual Crab fest at the VFW.  He looked forward to cooking them for everyone.  He was the Crabman.  He was an avid Phillies, Eagles, and Soul fan. Enjoyed Harley Davidsons, Classic Cars including his 1966 Chevelle, shooting pool, darts, Texas Holdem poker, hunting, fishing, but most of all he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.  Preceded in death by his parents Austin and Agnes Gill, Father in Law Richard Bracht, Margaret (Bill) Chambers, Brother in laws Paul Silzle, Bill Schubert, Great niece Chelsea Grady, and great nephew Patrick Bowers.  Stephen is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 19 years Debra (Bracht) Gill and his children Nicole and Stephen.  Grandchildren Ethan and Brayden.  Mother-in-law Ida, Sisters Ruth (Bill) Bairstow, Agnes (Bill) Waterman, Kathleen Silzle, Virginia Schubert.  Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.  Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 1 – 5 pm at the Joseph A. Schumacher VFW Post 1597, 901 Bellevue Avenue, Croydon, PA 19021. Interment will be held private.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to VNA of Greater Philadelphia, 3300 Henry Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19129.
