Paul Manes

May 31, 1924 — January 20, 2015

Paul Manes of Levittown, age 90, died peacefully at his home on Tues., Jan. 20, 2015. Paul was a proud WWII Veteran, serving 2 tours in the U.S. Army, in both the European and Pacific Theaters. During his service he met and married Meta, his wife of over 65 years. He worked at the Rohm & Haas Bristol plant as a chemical operator for over 30 years. He enjoyed a quiet retirement with his wife, with frequent visits from his children and grandchildren. He spent his time meticulously caring for his home and lawn, grocery shopping, planning (and eating) meals, and grilling the best barbecued chicken ever at many backyard picnics. Paul was an original Levittown homeowner, where he raised his family and enjoyed his long retirement with Meta. He was born and raised in Burlington, NJ, and always kept a special place in his heart for his hometown, where many of his original family remained. Paul will be accompanied by his family as he takes one last "ride" through his hometown; past familiar landmarks including the house where he grew up, the Delaware River where he swam as a kid, and most especially the Hope Firehouse where he was a lifelong member. Paul was preceded in death by his 10 siblings and his grandson Michael. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Meta; his children Antoni (Betty), Brenda Barats, Paula Coyle (Bill) and Paul; grandchildren Traci, Kristi Clarke (Mike), Jami, Matthew, Tim and Tori; great grandchildren Caetlin, Connor, Brianna and Charlotte; 2 sisters-in-law Jean Manes and Ida Manes; brother-in-law Wilfried Diehl (Sue); and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, Jan. 30, from 10 to 11 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 5201 Emilie Rd., Levittown. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 am. Interment will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, wwwalz.org/donate.
