John Colella

March 12, 1917 — September 10, 2014

John Colella Born, March 12, 1917, son of the late Euplio and Vincenza (Lodise) Colella. John Colella passed away on September 10, 2014. Husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, John's greatest pride was his children. Born in Philadelphia, he attended Dobbins Technical School and finished his education on the GI bill. He was a Private First Class in the US Army during WWII. John was an Assistant Gunner. He earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was wounded in action in Moiville, France and received the Purple Heart. John and his wife Anne (Anna) were original owners of their Jubilee in Levittown, where they raised 6 children. They were original parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church in Levittown for over 55 years. John was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, their beloved son, Tom, and all of his brothers and sisters, brothers-in-law, and many sisters-in-law. John will be sadly missed by his children John and Barbara (Sprandio), Mary Theresa (Francescino), Bob and Linda (Nicholson), Jim and Doris (Nelson), Greg and Deb (Morrone), Virginia (Colella) and Robert Glatzer, 15 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his sister-in-law, Rita (Eichhorn) Colella. While raising his children, John was one of the original founders of the Levittown International Little League. He was a coach, manager, and umpire well past the years when his boys played ball. John was a huge Phillies fan. Making it to see another season was on his mind each winter. He met his wife on the dance floor, and they continued dancing throughout their long life together. In fact, he was still dancing until just last week. Their favorite dance hall was the Paso Doble. They traveled together on many cruises with their dear friends from Mill Creek and danced the night away. John was a long-time member of the Oxford Valley Seniors. John was employed for most of his working life as a pipe fitter at ITT Grinnell at D&Erie. He retired from the Plumbers Union. John had a lunch stand across from the Philadelphia Mint, and he worked in a paint company. John retired at age 62, because he had seen so many of his friends retire too late to enjoy it. He was retired for 35 very healthy years. Thank you to the nursing staff at St. Mary Medical Center. John thrived for the past three years as a resident of Chandler Hall's assisted living. We would like to thank all of those who cared for him at Chandler. He wishes them all a hardy Ho! Ho! Ho! Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, 6pm-8pm, at Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol Oxford Valley Road. All are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, 9am, at St. John Evangelist Church in Morrisville. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Veterans Cemetery. Donations may be made in his name to Chandler Hall, 99 Barclay St., Newtown, PA 18940. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of John Colella, please visit our flower store.
