Robert Young

August 25, 1929 — February 2, 2014

Robert A. Young, age 84, of Penndel, PA, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Wilkes Barre, PA, and at the age of 10 he moved to Hershey, PA, to attend Milton Hershey Industrial School where he graduated in 1947. He also attended Drexel University. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army where he was part of the Army Security Agency stationed in Germany. After his discharge from the service in 1954, he met and married his true love, Ruth (nee: Kostek). Mr. Young was hired by R.C.A. and worked in the Aerospace Division in Hightstown, NJ, until his retirement in 1989. During that time, he helped develop imaging and circuit board systems for the Lunar Excursion Module and he had the honor of being among those whose names are on a plaque which is on the moon today. Mr. Young was also an accomplished woodworker and was a member of the Bucks County Wood Turner Association. One of his projects, while he attended Bucks County Community College as a woodworking student, was a Christmas tree ornament which was selected to hang on the White House Christmas tree. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Milton Hershey School Alumni Association and the American Legion. Mr. Young was a dedicated husband and loving Dad and Pop-Pop. He was predeceased by his grandchildren Rebecca Cloud and Bobby Cloud; his brothers Carl, Malcolm, Bruce, and George; and sister Eva. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Young; his children Diane Cloud and her husband Richard, Ginny Huffnagle and her husband Dennis, and Roberta Bell and her husband Todd. He will also be missed by his adoring grandchildren Mandy and Justin Cloud, Patrick and Amy Huffnagle, and Rachel and Jonny Bell; and his sisters Janet Jones and Elaine Everitt. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, 10am, at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol Oxford Valley Road in Levittown. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon in the funeral home. Interment will be held privately at Washington Crossing National Veteran Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions in his name be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 555 North Lane, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
