Anthony Bartal

Anthony J. Bartal passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on November 24, 2013. He was 89 years old. Tony, as he liked to be called, was born in Coaldale, PA, on July 6, 1924. He played varsity basketball and football at Coaldale High School. Upon graduation, Tony served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. He moved to Bristol, PA, in 1953 where he took a job in the Coke Works department of U.S. Steel until he retired in 1984. Once retired, Tony enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, and he loved listening to or watching his favorite teams. Win or lose - he never gave up on them. Tony is survived by his wife of 66 years Florence; his son Dennis (Karen) and daughter Donna Kahhan (Jeff); his grandchildren Christopher Harkins (Elizabeth), Patrick Bartal, Amy Desmond (Daniel), Justin Kahhan, and Lauren Kahhan; and his great grandchildren Nicolina and Ellianna Harkins. Relatives and friends may call on Sat., 9:30am, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Croydon, PA, where a Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Penndel, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Anthony’s name to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 126 Walnut Ave., Croydon, PA 19021.
