Dolores Holderried

December 2, 1931 — October 7, 2013

Dolores Holderried (nee: D’Alfonso) of Washington Crossing, PA, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Alfredo and Pompilia (Ann) D’Alfonso on December 2, 1931. Dolores attended Bristol High School, participated in the Bracken Cadets as Captain of the Color Guard, and married her high school sweetheart Charles L. Holderried. Later, she moved to Bensalem, PA, where she held several administrative assistant positions in the Bensalem Twp. School District for almost 35 years; becoming involved and taking joy in the accomplishments and events of the school children that she held so dear. Everyone loved “Mrs. H.” Dolores enjoyed world travel, theatre, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She was the beloved wife of Charles for 61 years; most devoted and loving mother to Anne, Kathleen Weck of Washington Crossing, PA, and Charles (Jean) of Seaford, DE; and loving sister to Loretta Devine (Bill), and Samuel D’Alfonso and the late Rose Strong. Her memory will be cherished by niece Kelly Devine-Hollander (Jon); and nephews William Devine (Karen), Kenneth D’Alfonso (Michelle), Christopher D’Alfonso (Denise), Thomas Strong, John Strong, and Michael Strong; her great-nieces and nephew; and her beloved family friends Margot Guzman and Norma Morales. The family wishes to thank her caregivers Deborah Conrad and Jean Anne Carr, and her nurse Eugenia Roytenberg for their endless love, compassion, and kindness they showed Dolores for the last 2 years. We are made better by the people who love us; through them we learn how to love, how to honor, how to care, and how to forgive. We will never forget the example Dolores set; the limitless selfless love she held for us all, the joy of life she so willingly shared, and the family times and traditions that are more meaningful because of her. So in return, we say “We love you, we will miss you, our lives are better for having had you in them, and we will never forget you. Until we are together again, we will carry you in our hearts forever.” Family and friends may visit Tues., 7pm-9pm, and Wed., 8am-8:45am, at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 430 Radcliffe Street, Bristol. Funeral Mass will begin 10am, Wed., at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Rd., Newtown, PA 18940. Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown. Donations may be made in Dolores Holderried’s memory to Alzheimer’s Assoc. Delaware Valley, 399 Market St., Ste. 102, Phila., PA 19106.
