Dorothy Hresan

d. December 23, 2012

Dorothy Ann Hresan (nee: Dudash), of Levittown, PA, died on December 23, 2012 at St. Mary Hospital in Langhorne. She was born on Feb. 4, 1925 and was raised in Aliquippa, PA. She graduated from Hopewell High School in 1943, and following her graduation from St. Francis School of Nursing, worked as a registered nurse at Sewickley Hospital. She was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Naval Reserve Nurse Corps, serving from 1949 to 1951. She was employed as a staff nurse and later as head nurse of the medical department of Jones & Laughlin Steel (LTV), Aliquippa Works. In 1997, Dorothy moved to Langhorne to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. Dorothy loved sports, and religiously followed the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers. Two of her greatest thrills were meeting Bill Mazeroski and Willie Stargell, and seeing Mario Lemieux play in person in Feb. 2001. She attended many Trenton Thunder and Trenton Titans games and was known to emphatically boo an umpire or referee over what she thought was a bad call. She also enjoyed reading, working puzzles, watching Jeopardy, playing games on her iPod, and taking occasional trips to Atlantic City. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Anna Morhovic Dudash and John L. Dudash; her brothers John R. Dudash, William Dudash, Thomas Dudash, and Charles Dudash; her sisters Irene Cepull, Frances Owens, and Virginia Clary; and a son John Wayne Hresan. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Hugh Bower of Hamilton, NJ; her brother Alfred Dudash of Aliquippa, PA; her dear friends Meryl Anne Klein and Dylan Klein-Denk of Ewing, NJ; her grand dogs Mac and Lillie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. We will miss her fiercely independent sense of self and her kind and generous spirit. Following a private cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, 11am, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Levittown, PA. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aliquippa on a date yet to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Dorothy’s memory to The Mario Lemieux Foundation, 816 Fifth Ave., 6th Fl., Pittsburgh, PA 15219 or the The Pirates Charities, 115 Federal St., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
