George L. Strachan Jr., of Falls Township, passed away peacefully on Tues., May 29, 2012, at Crestview Center in Langhorne. He was 86. Born in Johnstown, PA, and raised in Portage, PA, he was the son of the late George and Florence (Lehman) Strachan Sr. George was a devoted husband to Elsie Mae (Leichliter) for 64 years. He was the much loved father to George (Ann), Candice Ponzurick, Philip (Cathy), and daughter-in-law Susan. He was the beloved grandfather of Lauren, Jill, Jack, Matthew, Stephanie, Brian, and Kelly, and great grandfather of George, Henry, Sarah, and Dayton. He is survived by his sisters Pat Walkovich, Joyce Bobolsky, Phyllis Herdtfelder, Linda Brickner, and Ginger Jenkins; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son William and his grandson George IV. George was an original Levittowner, and it was there that he and Elsie raised their four children. He had a long career at U.S. Steel Fairless Works where he was a millwright in the Sintering plant until his retirement in 1987. George was a proud and decorated WWII Army veteran who served in the Sixteenth Armored Division in the European Theatre. He enjoyed gardening and took pleasure in the successes and exploits of his children and grandchildren. One of the first coaches in the Levittown Continental Little League, he maintained a life-long interest in the San Francisco Giants and the New York Football Giants. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be privately held. Arrangements by Galzerano Funeral Home.
