Albert George Ludwig, age 91, passed away on the evening of December 15, 2011, at his residence. Born in Clarence, PA, May 28, 1920, Albert spent 22 years as a career soldier in the U.S. Army. During WWII, Albert fought in North Africa and Southern Italy under General George Patton, was transferred to England in preparation of the D-Day invasion and on June 6, 1944, landed with the first wave on Omaha Beach in Normandy and fought his way across Europe – the breakout at Saint-Lo, Battle of the Bulge, and the link up with the Russian Army at the Elbe River. Albert retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant on March 1, 1964. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award and Expert Badge with Pistol Bar and Rifle Bar. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0813 in Clarence, PA, and the Oxford Valley, Levittown, Bristol Twp., Middletown, Falls Twp. and Morrisville Senior Citizens Organizations. As WWII came to an end, Albert remained on duty in occupied Bamberg, Germany, where he met, fell in love with, and married Emily, a young beautiful German “Fraulein.” In 1964, after his retirement from the military, Albert, Emily and children moved to Levittown where Albert lived for the next 47 years. He worked for both Badenhausen Corp. and American Can Co. and was active and well-known in the community with many friends and acquaintances. Emily Ludwig, Albert’s beloved wife predeceased him on December 18, 2005. He is survived by his son, Robert (Bob) Ludwig of Levittown, daughters Anita Ludwig Macaulay of Melbourne Beach, FL, and Lydia Young of Hobe Sound, FL, grandsons Erik Ludwig of Phila. And Joseph Santoli Jr. of Pompano Beach, FL, sister Elizabeth Turch of Clarence, PA, daughter-in-law Donna Ludwig of Levittown, sons-in-law Hugh (Mac) Macaulay of Melbourne Beach, FL, and Vincent Ebbecke of Hobe South, FL, and extended family members Joseph Santoli Sr. of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Brooke Reeder of Levittown. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, 1pm, at Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol Oxford Valley Road in Levittown. Funeral service will begin at 3pm in the funeral home. Albert will be buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery, State Hwy. 110 & Memorial Dr., Arlington, VA 22201, at a later datet.
