Leonard Monks Sr.

Leonard James Monks Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2011, at St. Mary Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Philadelphia, and later moved to the newly established Levittown area to raise his family. He was a retiree of Plavins where he worked as a salesman and manager. Lenny and his family were the proud owners of Lenny Monks Garage. He was a WWII Navy Veteran who served in the Mediterranean operating landing crafts. He also served aboard the U.S.S. Missouri and the U.S.S. Little Rock. He was a member and past commander of the VFW Billington Post. He was an usher for many years at St. Joseph the Worker Church where he was an original parishioner who helped in the construction and finishing of the church and rectory. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He treasured his family and loved celebrating holidays; especially Christmas. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Monks; and his sister Marinell Coleman. Lenny will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 63 years Irene M. (nee: Petrino); his children Irene M. Kazan and her husband Steven, Leonard J. Jr. and his wife Michele, and Mary Lou Garris and James. He is the loving grandfather of Tina, Ronnie, Irene, Stephanie, Michele, Toni, Lucy, Grant, Laura, Kimberly, Lenny III, and James; and 13 adoring great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, 6-9pm, and Sat., 8-9am, at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 430 Radcliffe Street, Bristol Borough. Funeral Mass, 10am, at St. Joseph the Worker Church.
