Jovie Pizzullo

d. October 26, 2011

Jovie Pinto Pizzullo (nee: Minni), died Oct. 26, 2011. How do you sum up a life of 94 years in a few paragraphs? Jovie was born Dec. 3, 1916 in Bristol, PA, and grew up speaking Italian at home and English at school. She survived the Spanish Influenza of 1919, the Great Depression of the 1930’s, spent summers picking beans, worked in Grundy’s Mill, and saw her brothers off to WWII. Jovie was fiercely independent and, after High School in Bristol, went off to Hollywood College of Beauty Culture in Philadelphia; getting her license in 1940. During her lifetime, she endured the deaths of her parents; 6 brothers and sisters; 2 grandchildren; and 2 husbands. In 1941, Jovie married Paul W. Pinto and together they raised 3 children. Paul died in 1986. Jovie led a busy life, working as a hairdresser from her home and later as an employee of Pomeroy’s department store in Levittown and the Radford Motel in Bensalem. She was active in the Miraculous Medal Sodality of St. Ann Church and the Mother’s Guild at Bishop Egan High School. The family enjoyed vacations at the Jersey shore, and after their children were grown Jovie and Paul spent winters in Florida. Jovie doted on her grandchildren; especially her Sasha who died in 2006. Her favorite hobby was to find jobs for her children and grandchildren; sending help-wanted ads to one and all. In 1989, Jovie married Louis J. Pizzullo Sr. and moved to Spring Hill, FL. They enjoyed a happy life together, and when Louis died in 2007 Jovie returned to Bristol. She is survived by a brother Dominick Minni and his wife Jean of Philadelphia; 3 children, Anthony and his wife Nancy of Edgely, Marie Cipullo and her husband Tony of Washington Crossing, and Paula Trout and her husband Edward of Bristol; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; step-children and their families; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may attend her viewing Sunday, 7-9pm, and Monday, 8:30-9:30am, at Galzerano Funeral Home in Bristol. A funeral Mass will begin 10am, Monday, at St. Ann Church followed by her interment in St. Mark Cemetery.
