David Alcantara

d. May 27, 2011

David “The Taxi” Alcantara of Bristol, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 27, 2011, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 12, 1947, David was a lifelong resident of Bristol. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and was stationed in Vietnam as a field radio operator with H&S Company – 2nd Battalion – 7th Marines. David served his country loyally, was always proud of his service to our country, and returned a Lance Corporal. Upon returning from the war he was an innovative businessman exploring many occupations; most recently as the taxi driver known by many. His many hobbies included horseback riding, card playing, fishing, and hunting. David was a masterful storyteller with a colorful vocabulary, strong opinions, and a gentle spirit. A member of St. Ann’s Club, he also enjoyed politics, current events, and was always ready to discuss any subject at hand. Well known for being “politically incorrect” he was a kind and generous person whose actions spoke louder than his words. Comfortable in his own skin, he felt equally at home with politicians and businessmen while being a great friend and supporter to those abandoned by others. He is survived by his son Ed Croftcheck; his brother Craig Alcantara; his sisters Lynn Alcantara, Kim Fisher, and Robin Becker; his godsons Kyle Fisher and Trevor Bergey; 10 nieces and nephews; and many cousins and other close relatives and friends. He will be missed by many. Family and friends may attend his viewing on Thursday, 6-8pm, and Friday, 10-11:15am, at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 430 Radcliffe Street in Bristol. A funeral service will begin 11:15 on Friday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America at VVA.org. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of David Alcantara, please visit our flower store.
