Mark Joseph Szafara, age 54, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2010, at the University of PA surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Southampton, and later moved to the Levittown area to raise his family. He was an employee of Amtrak, where he worked as Supervisor. Also, he was a proud active reservist with the U.S. Air Force, and attended the U.S. Air Force Academy. He was involved in both Gulf Wars. Mark was a graduate of Drexel University and obtained a degree in Civil Engineering. He will be remembered as a loving, caring, husband and father. He enjoyed collecting fine antiquities and enjoyed working on cars; and was a “handyman.” He was preceded in death by his parents Casimir and Louise Szafara. He will be sadly and greatly missed by his wife of 17 years Andrea (nee: Kopacki). He is the loving father of Victoria and Emily Szafara. He is also survived by a sister Kristina Szafara; a brother Steven Szafara and his wife Jacqueline; sisters-in-law Helen Kenny and Leonar Geiger; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wed., 4:30-7:30pm, and Thursday, 8:30-9:30am, at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol-Oxford Valley Road. A Funeral Mass will be held Wed., 8pm, at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be Thurs. morning, following the viewing, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown. The family requests donations to American Leukemia Society, 2401 Pennsylvania Ave., Phila., PA 19130.
