Alfred J. Magro, age 90, of Edgely, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 24, 2010, at Lower Bucks Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Tullytown, he has been a resident of Edgely for the past 56 years. Mr. Magro was co-owner of Bayard Pump & Tank in Bristol Borough. Previously, he worked at Kaiser Metal and Bristol Home Furnishing. Al was a WWII Navy veteran who served on Ford Island in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member, and past president, of the Bristol Lion’s Club, and was instrumental with the construction of the Christopher Columbus Monument in Lion’s Park. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., the Mill Street Businessmen’s Association, and the Italian American Cultural Society. Mr. Magro was always active in community projects in both Bristol Borough and Tullytown. He was a loving father who used emotional strength and character as a mentor for his children and grandchildren. He had an unusual way of being stern, but flexible, in dealing with life, and was kind-hearted and generous to a fault. He was predeceased in death by his wife, and mother of his children, Mary (nee: Colella); his brothers Ben, Charles and Jerry Zucker; his sister Josephine Biancosino; his step-daughter Linda McCleary; and great grandson Jesse DeRatto. He is survived by his loving wife Jane McCleary Magro. He will be greatly missed by his children Barbara DeRatto and her husband Frederick, Anthony Magro and his wife Betty, and Alfred Magro and his wife Deborah; his grandchildren Lisa Poggi, Christian DeRatto and his wife Nicole, Dawn Holloway and her husband Trevor, and Amanda Magro and her fiancée Brian Storm; and great grandchildren Lauren, Alex, Tiffany, Sophia, Blake, and Jordan. He is also survived by his step-children Richard McCleary and his wife Denise, Mark McCleary and his wife Denise, and Brian McCleary and his wife Karen; many step-grandchildren; his sister Mary Macey; his sister-in-law Virginia Francescino; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and good friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, 9-11am, at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 430 Radcliffe Street in Bristol. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
